A thing of beauty

P2170017 P2040008_1 Where I have been? Stuck in the bowels of work hell, thats where.  I said to my friend that there is just no light at the end of my tunnel and it is making me nuts! Tis job is supposed to be part time. We are interviewing someone on wednesday to help with the load and then, with any luck, I can go back to a regular less nutty schedule. It doesn't help that I have school responsibilites at the same time as the busy season at work. I was in charge of the auction project for L's class. It is a bunch of first and second graders led by the most amazingly wonderful teacher.  I thought long and hard about this-what we could do that would really show the fun creative spirit of all those kids.  I asked my sister the former first grade teacher and she suggested having them paint a piece of furniture. I thought that was such a great idea that the next day I went to the salvation army and found the little beauty above for $10! How perfect! I primed it and spray painted it so that the metal parts would be blue. Then I painted the desk and chair back green and the seat blue.  The teacher suggested we have the theme be "It takes a village to raise a child" so I had them paint little houses on the green and fish on the blue so it looked like a fanciful little village by the sea. I love how it turned out.  The kids were so into it and they all had a ball. I hope the school makes a fortune on it.P2170012 P2170016 P2170013 P2170020

I love that seahorse.  I coated it with clear polyurethane at the end and it actually made the colors brighter.  It is just so happy and cheery.

Girls for Girls

P2020002 My daughter has this little phrase for when we do things just the two of us. She will look at me and stick her little fist out so I can bump her fist with my fist and she says, "Girls for Girls" in the funniest little way. On friday I was the Mom helper at school so she and I had the whole day to play together. After school she decided she wanted to go to get manicures.  My mom has fake nails and she is sort of fascinated with them. My nails are all real. All tiny and stubby and chipped real.  I get pedicures from time to time (not often enough) but never manicures. So off we went. We got to sit in big chairs with our feet up and they put blankets on our laps so we would be all cozy. It was just fun to see her so into a new experience. My lady asked me what shape I wanted. I had no idea I had a choice. Especially because look how short they are! I left it up to her. We chatted the whole time with the nail ladies and the four of us had a few good laughs. I have to say though that I spent the bulk of the time hoping so hard that she would not say something embarrasing as she is known to do and then we would be trapped in those chairs with all that akwardness! Like poor Cookie in the library who is the sweetest librarian ever. She asked her about her "Yellow tooth" or when she calls out some lady for her mustache. But, we were all spared from akwardness as she kept her questions suprisingly non personal.  I feel like I have to soak up as much as I can with her right now because she will be in kindergarten next year and then I will have even less time with her.

I drew the names for the Valenitines and they are Vicki and Maija! I am sending them out asap so you have them in time for V day. Thanks everyone for nice comments- I wish I had time and postage to mail them to all of you!
